    Mjolnir was common as  a neck pendant with the early Asa-faith Scandinavians. When Christianity was forced upon them, some wore crosses that were actually hiding the hammer of Mjolnir.
    Mjolnir is nowadays mostly seen as the sign of the ancient Asa faith.

    Mjolnir was part of a set of magical items given to the norse gods by the dwarves, Mjolnor was deemed the best magical item of the group. I believe because of its strenght and practical use.
