Symbol 20:14

2009

20:14 · A sign for platinum, a metal discovered around the middle of the eighteenth century and proven an element of its own by Scheffer (see bibliography). The sign, used by Scheffer for this new element, is a combination of the sign for silver, 2001, and that for gold, 2609.
Platinum is gray and shiny, similar to silver. It is resistant to many acids and does not oxidate. Like gold, it is very expensive and has a high density (almost double that of lead). 2609 and 2009 are also closely related in that the atom number (number of protons) of gold is 79, whereas that of platinum is 78.
Platinum could also be drawn 4221.
